We have been members of the Newfoundland Club of America for 30 years as well as belonging to local all-breed club
Kachina Kennel Club. Over the past 30 years, we have been officers and committee chairs in both regional and national
clubs. We live in a suburb of the Phoenix Metro area, staying very busy with many dog related activities as well as watching
our three wonderful grandsons grow.
Nearly 30 years ago, we wanted a large purebred dog. After weeks of research, we decided on a Leonberger or a
Newfoundland. We located a Newfoundland breeder near Phoenix, who we met at the next all-breed show. A beautiful
Landseer caught our eye that day, and fortunately the local breeder had Landseers. In April, 1978 we bought our first show
quality dog; or so we thought. Gabbie was so cute with her white and black fluffy coat.
After attending our first puppy match, we were bitten by the show bug! As members, we started receiving NewfTide, the
quarterly magazine of The Newfoundland Club of America, and with our first issue, realized Gabbie looked nothing like a show
dog. We started looking at Newfoundlands shown in Arizona and decided to research a breeder in California. We purchased
an adult male from them and Larry began showing him.We have never looked back since the first show!
After several Champions and much research, in 1985 we whelped our first litter. Now, as experienced breeders we try to
educate people who want a Newfoundland puppy in all of the aspects of the breed. As one of the founding members of the
Mesquite Newfoundland Club in Phoenix, Arizona we encourage all Newfoundland owners to join their local club as well as the
national club, The Newfoundland Club of America.
